Thought For The Day

Failure to Thrive

While “failure to thrive” is a medical condition which sometimes affects babies, it may also speak to the reality of the lives we live as spiritual beings. We are promised so much – but take so little.

A homeless man found dead under a Wyoming overpass last week stood to inherit $19 million from his deceased adopted great aunt, a copper heiress whose $300 million fortune is being disputed by her descendants in New York courts. (ABC NEWS)

The man found dead had an un-cashed check in his pocket, and no one seems to know why he had failed to use it to find shelter. One would think that he had no idea his great aunt was a multi-millionaire.

Every day of the World there are Believers who have been promised the resources of our infinite God, but fail to cash in on the smallest gifts. The Apostle John said, “Now this is the confidence we have before Him: whenever we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears whatever we ask, we know that we have what we have asked Him for. (1 John 5:14)

Perhaps at the beginning of this new year you are living “under the bridge,” when the Heavenly Father desires to give you every good and perfect gift.

Why not start the new year as heir to the promise of God’s absolute sufficiency?
