Thought For The Day

Look! Up in the Sky!

You have to be older to remember the words of today’s title. Of course, it has a whole new meaning now – and I don’t like it. Why? I don’t know if I know.

I was telling someone the other day that I don’t like all the cameras that are trained on everyone, everywhere. I guess I understand why they are “there,” but I am not sure people understand how much of their life is now “on camera” every day. It just makes me nervous – and I don’t want to be nervous.

Now, here comes more. Drones. Sure we know the Military establishment has drones, and that the Police have drones, and don’t think for one second that the likes of ICE, TSA, and Homeland Security don’t. So why shouldn’t the “journalists” (whatever that means)?

“The other aspect is investigative, the idea is you put a drone up in the air and look around. Maybe you’ll find things, who knows what yet,” according to Scott Pham of the University of Missouri, “That’s news gathering that can happen in your backyard,” Pham said. “That’s where the real value is. From my perspective that’s what actually expands journalism. Tools that allow us to get new information and report it, and that’s what I think a drone can do.” (ABC News)

Maybe our Church needs to get a drone or two. We could send them up on Sunday morning to find out what our “members” and “friends” are doing when they don’t show up for Church.

Actually, the problem lies in the fact that privacy, already almost extinct, will soon be totally gone. I don’t know of anything I have to hide (except my ill-kept yard), but I just don’t feel comfortable with someone, anyone, watching me all the time.

Of course, there is God. I know He does. . .but then, He lloves me.
