Thought For The Day

Seeing the Future

Reading some of the transcripts of the United States Supreme Court this week is both taxing and interesting. I am surprised at the lack of rhetorical expertise. . .but be that as it may, some interesting things are said. Here is an abbreviated example:

Justice Samuel Alito argued the court may need more time to see how gay marriage could change the country. “Traditional marriage has been around for thousands of years,” Alito said, echoing one of the key points in the defense against gay marriage. “Same-sex marriage is very new. I think it was first adopted in The Netherlands in 2000. So there isn’t a lot of data about its effect. And it may turn out to be a — a good thing; it may turn out not to be a good thing, as the supporters of Proposition 8 apparently believe. “But you want us to step in and render a decision based on an assessment of the effects of this institution which is newer than cell phones or the Internet? I mean we — we are not — we do not have the ability to see the future.” (ABC News)

Seeing the future may not be quite as difficult as one might think. For example, if you read the last few verses of Isaiah Chapter 52 and all of Chapter 53, you will note that Isaiah “saw” exactly what would happen 700 years later, when, as we remember this week, Jesus of Nazareth was taken, tried, beaten, and nailed to a Roman cross to die. And, as we will celebrate this Sunday (and every Sunday), arise from the grave subsequent to His death – to be declared Lord of All.

Hence, I think we should not have much difficulty seeing the future of our Nation, or any Nation, which abandons God, ignores His Sovereignly revealed Truth, and moves inextricably toward the resultant immorality.

But don’t take my word for it – Read about the “un-creating” of this Earth and Heavens (2 Peter 3:10-13), and the coming judgment of the un-redeemed (Revelation 20:11-15). God’s infinite llove and mercy, currently available to all mankind, will be finished, and His righteous judgment for those who have rejected His perfect sacrifice, will be satisfied.

One person quoted today said – “the only people who could possibly be opposed to same-sex marriage are the ‘Bible thumpers.'” You probably should considered me a ‘thumper.’
