Thought For The Day

Getting Critical

I know it is not my job to criticize Congress – it’s just that it is so easy. There are folk out there who think those who claim to be “Christians” should avoid politics – but, of course, they are wrong. As an American, each citizen has the privilege, the right, and the responsibility to be involved in our Governmental operation.

I don’t know Senator Joe Manchin. I am sure he is a wonderful guy. But listening to him (via an article in The Lookout, A Yahoo News Blog), I wonder. . .

The Senate can’t seem to agree on anything, can’t construct a budget for the Country, and is just now learning “what is in” much of the legislation they have passed in the last year or two. With approval numbers moving toward the single digits, the Senator has the audacity to say, “he needs to educate law-abiding gun owners who support the legislation but don’t trust the government.” Why would he think anyone could/would trust the Government? How about those Senators educating each other on the Constitution of the United States of America?

That is followed by this as he spoke about the Newtown, CT tragedy – “None of those families came to my office and asked to repeal the Second Amendment.” They asked him to make it harder for people who are bent on killing to get guns.

Well now, if he has figured out how to determine who those folks are who are bent on killing people before they buy guns to do it, why don’t we just take those people out of our society, and who has guns won’t make any difference.

He is right about one thing (and maybe others, I don’t want to be “mean”), we need to educate people – but what they need more than any other knowledge is TRUTH. That comes only from God’s Word. Seems like I remember (most of) the Senate is not so hot (educated?) on that idea.

Just saying. . .
