Thought For The Day

Truth and Judgment

I was afraid some of you would have missed last night’s (July 1,2014) Bible Study. The guest Teacher is back for a few nights to continue the study of Hebrews. One of the points he made (certainly made by others over and over again) is so vital to where we are as Believers, as the Church of Jesus Christ, and as a Nation, that I wanted to point it out to you as well.

Hebrews 12:12-17 carries the heading “Renew Your Spiritual Vitality” in the New King James version of Scripture.  The passage encourages the Believer to act on the Truth they know. It is easy to fail in this matter. We may be quite aware of the Truth, the action required, the commitment necessary, but still fail to be active practitioners of that Truth.

The reality is that Truth that is known but not obeyed becomes a judgment against us. What is designed by God to be a great benefit in our life becomes, rather, that which damages and/or thwarts our holiness.

Out of those failures come a whole conflagration of problems. The writer of Hebrews lists a few: no peace, roots of bitterness, profane people. It seems as if those are common problems not only in our society (I am talking here about BELIEVERS), but in our Churches and in our homes. When God’s people fail to be obedient to the Truth they know, everyone suffers.

Surely we can see that individually, as the Church, and as a Nation. Right?
