Thought For The Day

State of Living

You probably saw CNBC’s top ten States in which to live. And, lo and behold, Texas was not on the list. They (CNBC) seemed to be focused on the “health” of the people (how ever one determines that), and the percentage of residents who possess health insurance. Of course the beauty of the surroundings and the clean air were top priorities as well.

South Dakota made the list – lucky Andy. Maine was there. That is one of my favorite places on Earth. Washington was in the mix. I am headed that way at the end of the month and I am eager for the pristine beauty of the Pacific Crest Trail. Since New Hampshire is on the list we need to envy our friends (the Gastons) a bit. They put Hawaii at number one. Heaven on Earth? I am not sure I would go that far, but it is a beautiful, healthy place.

I think the best state in which to live is the one that comes with the promise of the real Heaven at the end, and all the richness of God’s absolute sufficiency in the present. It is a state of mind, heart, and being which provides for peace, harmony, wholeness, and joy – while asking only for obedience to the revealed Truth of God’s Word.

North Central Texas may not be the most beautiful place on Earth. It may not be the healthiest. But God is here. He offers an amazing array of spiritual joys and promises to provide for His own with limitless grace. That’s a state in which we can all find genuine peace for today and certain hope for tomorrow.
