Thought For The Day

Help Me Get It

I don’t get it. I need someone out there to explain it to me. The numbers are huge – and maybe that is the problem. I have been working in the Church of Jesus Christ for a lot of years and am familiar with $1,000,000-plus budgets (I know, small potatoes).

How much does it take to care for a child in this Country? In relationship to these “children” our Government seems determined to care for, if you have to house them, clothe them, feed them, and “doctor” them (which, of course is a very moving target – but none of these kids are really sick, or so we are told), protect them and put them in school, how much does that cost?

I have been raising kids for a long time – I haven’t seen the current costs, but I am supposed to understand that whatever it costs today, if we don’t do it today, it will cost $250 – $1000 more per day tomorrow.

According to multiple congressional sources close to members briefed on the situation, a delay in funding would impose increased costs of $250 to $1,000 per child per day. Since Oct. 1, approximately 57,000 children have been apprehended at the border. To give an example of the magnitude of the $250 to $1,000 range — and the cost of congressional inaction — the collective price tag for one day of care for those children could range from $14.25 million to $57 million, a difference of $42.75 million per day. (Yahoo News)

Now let’s see. I had (have – now on their own most of the time) four kids. If I just figure the increase, not to mention the cost now, at the bargain price of $250 per day times 4, that comes to $1000 per day, times 7 days a week, comes to $7000 per week times 4 weeks per month, comes to $28,000 per month, which turns out to be about $336,000 per year. I regret to tell  you that I never made that much money, which is why my kids must not have survived.

I like kids (well sorta), but I don’t think we can afford this. At least I can’t. So if we move forward, just count me out will ‘ya?

One more thing. There are children all over the world who are “suffering.” Are we going to take in all of them? Or, who picks which ones will be helped and which ones will not? I don’t want that job either.

Hope you’re not holding your breath ’til the national debt is paid, along with “new math” we’ve invented “new economics”. How many $MIL per day have we been spending on the other guy’s wars in the east for the last 14 years? And to what result? The money supply train has been plowing ahead with no engineer for years now. Maybe a few of the children could be saved at least.
