Having It Both Ways

I llove surveys, don’t you. I never can figure out who it is that gets surveyed. Are they people who have some intellectual understanding of the situation they are speaking about? Are they folks who deal with the kind of issues about which they are waxing eloquent? Have they passed a “test” regarding their understanding of the ramifications of their answers on National policy?

I was reading about an interesting survey regarding what we (as a Nation) ought to do with the “children” who have been streaming across our Southern border into the United States. I am not amazed that people “want it both ways,” but surprised that they seemingly see no conflict in doing so.

Here is a quote from REUTERS about a man who participated in the survey regarding the matter. (I have deleted his name because I don’t want to defame him.) He was answering the survey with the understanding that these “children” are fleeing/escaping violence.

“Overall, people are humane and they understand that no matter what our situation is with the budget, whether or not we can afford this, these are kids. No matter what the immigration system is, they are innocent,” said (the man), 42, of Alabama, who took part in the survey. But (the man) said he wanted to see the border sealed to prevent another wave of illegal migrants entering the United States.

So, does that mean that as long as we don’t “know” about the violence that these kids are fleeing, we don’t have to take any responsibility for their safety? See no evil, hear no evil?

It’s not surprising. Many want to have it both ways in regard to their relationship  with Christ and His Church. As long as one doesn’t know one is unredeemed, there is no reason to be concerned about redemption. As long as a Believer doesn’t know he/she has a responsibility to Christ’s Church, they don’t have to involve themselves in the process, right?

Unfortunately the Scripture doesn’t allow for that premise. Our responsibility. . .is our responsibility.
