Thought For The Day

Non Human Rights

I am willing to confess that sometimes I just don’t understand the thinking of some humans. I can’t help but think that some people (humans) don’t really think what they say they think, but are looking for some justification in their search for significance.

When I read the following narrative – my first thought was – Zoo.

A New York appeals court will begin hearing a landmark case on Wednesday that could determine if a chimpanzee has a legal status akin to personhood, thereby making its captivity unlawful. (TIME)

The Nonhuman Rights Project has an ambitious agenda: The organization pressing the case, the Nonhuman Rights Project, has stated that the case will not end with Tommy: “Our goal is, very simply, to breach the legal wall that separates all humans from all nonhuman animals.” (IBID.)

So imagine the Court is favorably disposed to see things their way. Doesn’t that mean that other non-human species have “rights” also? Why should horses be constrained against their will to pull those carriages through parks in almost every city in the World? Shouldn’t cows have a right not to become a hamburger at Burger King? And what about those nasty, ugly, yicky cockroaches? Are they on the list for gaining their civil rights?

PETA must be salivating like crazy.

God knows we are losing our collective mind. I am just surprised how many people don’t know how deep the loss is at this point in time.

Are you not glad that you know the end? We have crossed from death unto life…the meaning of “Shalom” is becoming more apparent (to us) everyday. And I think we need to start saying “when in the course of human events…..”
