Thought For The Day

What If

What if – God had said, “I am God. I don’t need anyone else. I will live alone in my Cosmos and be totally comfortable in all things.”

What if – Christ had said, “Father, I don’t wish to leave Heaven and go to Earth. Thanks for the offer, but I will pass.”

What if – Jesus had said, “I have been treated badly, ugly things have been said and done, and I am not going to Jerusalem.”

What if – the Lamb of God had said, “I have never felt such agony and pain. I will not die on this hill. Father, send the Army of Angels.”

What if – the risen Savior had said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, I have paid the price. Now I am going home. Your are on  your own. Good luck.”

What if – any day, God said, “I am tired of constantly having to forgive you. Just go and live in the devastation and despair of your sinful choices.”

What if – the Church of Jesus Christ was not a loving,  forgiving, caring, ministering, self-sacrificing, example of the infinite grace of its Lord and Master.

What if – I am called to account for my failure to be conformed to the image of my Lord.

Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)

Amen…it takes effort to be in relationship. Maybe that is why divorce (leaving anything that takes effort to maintain) is rampant in all of society.
I am glad that all of scripture declares that your first six “what ifs” are not even plausible. Number 7 is up for grabs because we cannot see inside of a person. Number 8 is my greatest fear (and I am daily grateful for the Blood of Christ).
